AGE GROUPS

Our age groups are based on making eligible teams for both the Mason Softball (9-12u) and Delhi (14u) leagues. Both are based on the players age as of September 1st of the 2024 calendar year.

  • 10U: 10 years old or younger as of September 1st. This includes 9 & 10 year olds.

  • 12U:  12 years old or younger as of September 1st. This includes 11 & 12 year olds.

  • 14U: 14 years old or younger as of September 1st. This includes 13 & 14 year olds.

TEAM FORMATION POLICY

It is our intention to be fair with all of our players. As such, final placement will follow these guidelines:

1. Results from Upper Team tryouts.

2. Age group (based on player’s age as of September 1st of registration year).

3. Feedback from previous Coach

4. School players attend.

Junior Comet Upper teams are for club players and skilled players who wish to compete with fewer rule modifications against more skilled players from other Communities. Placement for our Upper teams will be determined by a tryout, position needs, and ability to make all practices.

Lower division teams are formed to allow players to continue development against teams with similar abilities. The end of the season tournament is then divided into brackets that include teams with similar records.

PLAYING UP

Each season we receive numerous requests to allow a player to move into a higher age group. It is important to remember that there are many other aspects in sports besides ability. By remaining in her age group, a good player has the ability to develop leadership skills. It also allows the player to remain with friends making the season more enjoyable. The Junior Comets policy is to keep players in their respective age group. Exceptions to this rule are as follows:

1. If an age group is short players and additional players are needed to fill teams. This would be dependent on registration numbers on a yearly basis.

2. The player’s skill level poses a danger to other players.

Please understand that while some players may be capable, moving them to another age group removes a player from that age group that may not have anywhere else to be placed. Our policy is in place to be fair to all players.

PRACTICE EXPECTATION POLICY

  • Coaches are volunteers. We as a program will do our best to prepare them to coach your daughter’s team. If you have suggestions or comments, please talk to the coach after practice.

  • Practices will be held two days a week for 1 1⁄2 to 2 hours. If fields are available coaches may practice additional days.

  • Players will show up and be ready to practice at the time of practice. If you are going to miss practice or a game, please let your coach know in advance.

  • Weather can be an issue and some teams may practice more than others. It is up to the coach to determine if practice will be canceled and inform parents in a timely manner.

  • Players will dress properly for practices.

  • Practices will aim to teach basic skills to younger players and build on those skills as the player gets older.

  • Refrain from coaching your child when watching practice. If you have questions or suggestions, please talk to the coach after practice.

  • All players and parents will be respectful to their coach(es), team mates and umpires. Please use the 24 hour rule if you have a problem. This allows a cooling off period. If you have a concern that you feel is not being properly addressed by the coach, please contact Danielle Beachnau.
